I’m creeping up on my 25th birthday, and there’s an itch that I can’t describe. It’s not that anything is wrong with my life, but I need a change.
And that’s why I am going to be a modern nomad for the next year.
(I created a video about my decision below, so if you’d rather hear me talk about it… scroll down instead!)
a member of a people having no permanent abode, and who travel from place to place to find fresh pasture for their livestock
THE LIFE-CHANGING DECISION: road trip my way from Boston to California while working full-time remote. It should take about 10 months.
WHERE I WILL STAY: For the most part, short-term rentals from Airbnb. I’d also take into consideration long-term stay hotels, like Aloft, but I want to meet locals.
JOB: I’m going full-time remote! I let my boss know at the beginning of 2018 my plans to move out of Boston at the end of my lease. He’s given me his blessings because I’m a freaking rock star at my job.
FINANCES: My finances will change drastically. What’s great is that now I can move to cities that have a lower cost of living and spend less money. I probably will also spend less on beauty because I’ll always be traveling and would not want to over pack. I will be writing a separate post on finances to serve as a baseline, and I will definitely be doing a lot more financial posts with this new lifestyle of mine.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE BLOG: Lots of posts! There will be posts summarizing my stays in a city, my favorite and not-so-favorite spots, and more. I won’t only be writing about travel though, so stay tuned for travel finances, the ups and downs of going on a mostly solo trip… I’m super excited.
END GAME: So many people have asked me, “What’s going to happen after this road trip is over? Are you going to stay in California?” No. I don’t know. Who knows? I think I’m too much of a wandering soul to stay in one place for a long time. Right now, I don’t feel like as though I’ll settle down in a place, but that may change. We’ll see.
This is a huge overhaul of my lifestyle. I’m so excited, and will bring you guys on the adventure! Do you guys have any questions or comments? Let me know!
