Zhongli is a small district within Taoyuan City. For someone like me who has lived here for a few months and visited every year since I was little, I find Zhongli to be a bit boring. There isn’t much to do around here because it’s such a small town, but I did my best to look at things from the perspective of a person visiting Zhongli for the first time.
Modes of transportation
- Scooter (most common)
Roads in Taiwan are taken over by scooters. It’s the main form of transportation and because there are so many scooter owners, there aren’t enough parking spots to accommodate every bike. Most people will either park illegally and hope for the best that it doesn’t get towed or create a space to park their scooter by moving other scooters to the side (each parking spot will have more than one scooter).
These are becoming a super popular way for teenagers to get around town. It’s affordable and convenient. New users can quickly sign up and rent a ubike using their EasyCard (a card that can be used to pay for multiple forms of transportation/convenient stores) at any ubike station kiosk. Ubike stations are also accessible at convenient places such as parks and train stations.
$10NTD ($0.33 USD) per 30min within the first 4 hours.
$20NTD ($0.66 USD) per 30min between 4 to 8 hours.
$40NTD ($1.30 USD) per 30min exceeding 8 hours.
One thing to do for fun
- Biking around town
Biking is good exercise and a cool way to explore random streets and areas in town. One day, my friend and I decided to bike towards Gloria Outlets. We knew the general direction of where it was located, so without really following any directions, we went on an adventure. We biked towards the outlet, spontaneously turning and biking on any roads we thought seemed interesting to go down.
- Breakfast: 永和豆漿大王 (Yonghe Do Jiang King)
This local breakfast place is open early in the mornings and late at night. It’s my favorite place to eat yummy Taiwanese breakfast foods. It’s also the best franchise restaurant I’ve eaten at (definitely has something to do with the lady who makes the breakfast…her skills are on point and the food just tastes better when she’s cooking).
